Pre-Impregnated Fibers

Pre-preg materials are composites made of “pre-impregnated” fibers. Glass, carbon, and aramid fibers are common types of pre-preg materials used in the aviation industry. Each is typically reinforced with a thermoset resin and includes one side with adhesive for easier application. Shop pre-pregs from the most reliable brands in the industry, including Kenkel Loctite, Celeste Industries, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is pre-preg?

add

Pre-preg is short for pre-impregnated. The fibers are pre-impregnated with reinforcing materials, like glass, carbon, or aramid fibers. A pre-preg sheet is applied to another composite material to improve its strength.

How to make pre-preg materials.

add

The pre-preg process involves dipping fabric in a resin or a hot-melt process spreading resin over a metal sheet. The first, known as the solvent drip process, wraps the fabric around an object to give it shape. After being dipped, some pre-preg materials can receive a vacuum treatment for curing. The hot melt process heats the sheet in an oven to melt the resin, then lays a fabric over the metal sheet and pressed into it.

What is pre-preg in composites?

add

Pre-preg fibers are composites with pre-impregnated fibers. A pre-preg composite material is often made from carbon, glass, or aramid fibers with a thermoset resin to reinforce it.
